What is an AC Charging Station?

AC (alternating current) charging stations are the infrastructure used for charging electric vehicles. These charging stations allow electric vehicles to charge their batteries using mains electricity. AC charging stations are often found in homes, workplaces and public areas for daily use of electric vehicles.

AC charging stations typically have outlets similar to electrical outlets used in homes. These are installed in a parking area designed to accommodate the electric vehicle. The electric vehicle connects the charging cable to these sockets to charge. Charging stations are usually powered by AC electricity and generally allow electric vehicles to be charged at a slower rate.

AC charging stations are faster to charge electric vehicle batteries than standard electrical outlets used in homes or businesses, but have a slower charging speed compared to fast charging stations. Therefore, AC charging stations are generally suitable for daily use of electric vehicles, as well as fast charging stations used in long-distance travel of vehicles.
